Be Wise Today

Be wise today; ’tis madness to defer. — Edward Young 1683–1765

I imagine an alternate universe where I effortlessly and easily open the minds of the most petty and misdirected people in power and affect positive change and common sense on policy and practice. The areas I’ve worked in related to education, housing and economic development could be guided and improved with my observations and insights. How awesome that would be!

Meanwhile, in this present version, I don’t move the needle as much as I’d like, or nearly as effortlessly. I keep working to improve those skills and yet feel it’s better to gain traction outside of those dysfunctional environments as they are so invested in the status quo. It can feel discouraging to see people doing the most harm while proclaiming loudly that they’re just “concerned” with the best outcome. They try to thinly veil their agendas and self-interest behind their own versions of “duty.” And when they’re controlling the purse strings on millions of dollars for programming and assistance, it feels like a travesty.

Thankfully, I’ve learned to practice doing my best and letting go of the outcome. Back to meditating, breathwork and dance. Back to joyful creation and visioning the impact, opening to what’s next.
