Many of us had less than ideal upbringings. We have had to learn to be our own best friend and lovingly care for our bodies, minds, emotions and spirit for quality of life and achievement of aspirations. Sometimes it can be difficult to hear that “still, small voice” of inner wisdom that guides us along. Thankfully, there’s a ton of options to explore for centering and tuning in so that the next most appropriate action on your behalf is evident; which may be inaction and rest.
A tool I’ve found helpful is to imagine myself in dialogue and presence with a younger version of myself, perhaps at a time of intense struggle or worry. The intent is reassurance that “you got this” and it’s going to work out, as you know that it has from your current perspective. Then I envision a version of my older self coming to me now and listen for what wisdom comes to me regarding any current circumstances or feeling states. I include lots of kudos for surviving and thriving in 2020!
I find this also helps strengthen awareness of internal dialogue, which I re-frame and shape to what is affirming and aligned with my goals. If the environment is chaotic, it’s much harder to “hear yourself think” and I’ve used earplugs, headphones, mantras, bells or the white noise of a fan to steady my immediate environment and keep toxic people and situations out to the degree possible, making it easier to remain centered and grounded.
As I bridge from now into my Future Self, increasing and improving my self-care and the quality of my internal dialogue, I rest easy into the wise unfoldment taking place, knowing that I am taking the best care of this moment upon which those moments will rest.
