What a collective YES and sigh of relief felt around the world! Still so many challenges that lie ahead but hope has been reborn for so many people. Democracy may yet survive in America and we can rejoin the world in prioritizing our climate, planet and human rights.

During these past four years, I’ve been reminded so often of the time I spent in the former Soviet Union in the early 90s. Their economy was in shambles, their old statues venerating what they’d been founded on were coming down, their new leadership was creating longer term-lengths to effectively eliminate competition (and is still in power decades later) and their people were divided and in collective shock.

I remember as I witnessed those things feeling we were headed there, but for us it would be much more violent and bumpy, with an armed populace not conditioned to the levels of tolerance and subjugation as they had been.

Like many, I’m relieved we’ve dodged the bullet of four more years of backward motion into increased darkness. We’re certainly not out of the woods, but there’s a definite uptick of hope and a tangible collective exhale.

Celebrating in gratitude!
